We believe that employing those with challenges fosters better understanding and encourages greater social integration. That’s why we hire physically and mentally challenged individuals who are suitable candidates for employment. In our experience, they have a tremendous amount to offer, inspiring staff and customers alike. We give them tasks that play to their strengths and enable them to develop at their own pace while contributing to productivity. This provides them with a sense of purpose, empowerment and independence, not to mention an income, which does wonders for their self-esteem. It's about the feel-good factor and all parties have everything to gain!
We will be introducing you to all our Challenged Employees over the next few posts, so let’s start with the story of our very first joiner… After a few years of weekly vocational training at THE One Jumeirah, in which time he literally grew up in front of our eyes, Palestinian-born Mahmoud Zaher, a Cerebral Palsy sufferer, joined THE One on June 4, 2002. We soon discovered his flair for figures and Mahmoud went on to become one of our valued data encoders in our Stock Control Department. Following the centralisation of our operations in April 2006, Mahmoud now works in our Dubai Warehouse Department for four hours a day, three days a week.
